welcome to MÜhlbach

Discover history, enjoy the landscape, hop on a bike - the perfect starting point for more from your holiday

In Mühlbach, valleys and routes meet. It’s always been that way. A striking reminder of its importance can still be seen today: the Mühlbach Fortress. Once a historic border point, it is now open to visitors as part of guided tours. But here, history is more than just a building - it’s woven into the landscape. The fact that Mühlbach was granted market town status as early as 1269 can still be felt in many details. A stroll through the village takes you past historic residences. Browse the small shops or enjoy an espresso while reading the paper.

A peaceful place, yet a real hub: the Pusteria Valley cycle path towards Lienz passes through here, making Mühlbach an ideal starting point or stop along the way. Prefer heading higher? The nearby villages of Meransen, Spinges and Vals are just a short distance away. And that’s what makes Mühlbach so special - arrive, then go wherever you feel like.

Mühlbach is steeped in history  not least because of the Mühlbach Klause Fortress. This former customs station at the entrance to the Puster Valley once marked the border between the counties of Gorizia and Tyrol. Today, it can be visited as part of guided tours.
