Landmarks and hidden gems

What makes a region truly worth seeing? Often it’s the places that stay with you long after you’ve left. Dreikirchen near Barbian is one of them - three small churches nestled into one another, reached by a scenic walk past elegant summer houses that tell their own stories of the past. Or the Latzfonser Kreuz, a pilgrimage site high above 2,000 metres with the famous Schwarzen Herrgott. Then there is the monastery of Säben above Klausen, perched like a throne on a rocky outcrop, and Neustift Abbey with its impressive abbey library holding around 95,000 volumes. And not to forget the Franzensfeste Fortress - once a military stronghold, today a vibrant place where history meets contemporary art and people come together. From open landscapes to remarkable interiors, from artistic treasures to unexpected discoveries - these are places well worth the detour.
