Welcome to Feldthurns
Wide alpine views, summit moments on the Königsanger and chestnuts in every form
Is it the taste? The look? Or the fact that they’re only available for a short time? The chestnut is a fascinating natural product - and in Feldthurns, it’s more present than almost anywhere else in South Tyrol. The village enjoys a beautiful setting on a sunny terrace above the valley, with views stretching all the way to the Dolomites. Chestnut groves, apple trees and vineyards shape the landscape. The best way to experience it is along the Keschtnweg: it runs right through the village and stretches for 90 kilometres from Neustift to Terlan - right through this chestnut landscape.
No wonder this spiky-shelled nut is not only found on local farms and menus, but also celebrated through events and culinary experiences. Feldthurns also offers plenty of culture, including Velthurns Castle, a Renaissance residence once used by the Prince-Bishops of Brixen.
Up on the Feldthurns alpine pastures, the views open up even further. Gentle hikes across meadows or a rewarding climb to the summit of the Königsanger - both are part of the experience. And then there’s Lake Radlsee. Much more than just a stop along the way. Some call it legendary. Maybe because the sky reflects so perfectly in its still waters. Or because in places like this, nature knows how to create special moments.
