Welcome to Latzfons
Hikes for every level, living traditions and a summit rich in history
Latzfons is a place that nothing seems to disturb. Perched on a sunny hillside, it carries a natural sense of calm. Here, tradition and rural life are not just words - they are part of everyday living. Community matters, something you can feel during the annual cattle drive at the end of summer, when decorated animals with ringing bells return from the alpine pastures to the valley.
The Isarco Valley is known for hikes of all levels, and here that variety becomes especially tangible. From gentle mid-mountain trails to high alpine routes, there’s something for every pace and every day. At 2,300 metres lies the Latzfonser Kreuz, the highest pilgrimage site in Europe. Following South Tyrol’s oldest pilgrimage path, the climb leads to a powerful and atmospheric place. At the top, the view opens out across the peaks of the Dolomites - from the Langkofel to the Peitlerkofel and the Rosengarten. In summer, the famous Black Christ hangs in the small pilgrimage church, carried up from the village each year in a traditional procession. Just one of many details that stay with you.
