The Tiefrastenhütte and the Tiefrastensee lake (2,312 m) lie at the entrance of the Winnebachtal Valley in the Pfunderer Mountains. Built in 1912 by the Brixen/Bressanone section of the former DuÖAV (the German-Austrian Alpine Club), the mountain hut is still managed by the Brixen section of the South Tyrolean Alpine Club (AVS).

Further information and useful links

The Tiefrastenhütte is located in the Pfunderer Mountains near Terenten/Terento, a sunny mountain village above Vintl/Vandoies at the entrance to the Pustertal Valley.Start of this tour is the Winnebachtal parking lot (1,425 m) at the mountain hamlet of Ast, east of Terenten.

Follow trail no. 23 along a wide track that leads up the valley to the Astnerbergalm mountain hut (1,641 m). After about 3,2 km, the trail arrives at the lower goods cable lift station, where the wide track narrows into a path (still trail no. 23). Here the ascent becomes steeper as it runs through a larchwood forest and across picturesque mountain meadows. Before long, the trail comes to a waterfall followed by a flat stretch. After a rest at the small Tiefrastenhüttl (2,026 m), the trail leads through a wide valley basin. At the intersection with the Pfunderer High Mountain Trail (Pfunderer Höhenweg in German), bear right. After a steep climb, the track arrives at the Tiefrastenhütte (2,312 m) next to the lake.

To return, follow the same track back to the starting point.
