In the 16th century, the prince-bishops of Brixen expanded the Hofburg palace into a Renaissance-style residence. This also included the palace gardens, such as the Herrengarten garden situated north of the palace, a flower and kitchen garden laid out around 1575. This beautifully designed bronze fountain was located at the heart of that garden.
