A draw well has always been located in the place which today is Zigglgasse alley in the Stufels district. The 1604 city law book of Brixen referred to it as “the deep well [Ziggl] in the outer alley”. The draw well (pictured in the historical image) was removed in 1906 when the Brixen sewers were constructed and the fountain was considered a useless traffic impediment. In 1993, the fountain was rebuilt based on the model of old (new image).
