Welcome to Vahrn/Neustift
Fresh and bold: a place that matures like a fine wine
If there were one place that effortlessly brings together nature and culture, it would be Vahrn with its district Neustift. Travelling south over the Brenner Pass, you feel the climate soften with every kilometre - until you arrive in Italy’s northernmost wine-growing region. On the gentle slopes, white grape varieties such as Sylvaner and Kerner thrive, known for their mineral freshness, both in the glass and at competitions. Just like the region’s traditional inns which run with a deep sense of heritage and authenticity. This is a wonderful place to set out on hikes, explore higher up in the mountains or down in the valley by bike, enjoy Törggelen with chestnuts and young wine, or refresh your feet with a Kneipp walk in the Schalderer stream.
And then there is Neustift Abbey - an impressive complex that still resonates today. Founded in 1142, it has grown over centuries into far more than one of Tyrol’s great monastic sites. It tells stories of the past, leads you into one of the most beautiful baroque libraries and shows how a place like this can remain vibrant in the present - with events and an exceptional educational programme. The Augustinian canons of Neustift recognised the uniqueness of this place as early as the Middle Ages.
