welcome to Brixen
Culture and nature, indulgence and variety
Brixen is a place of contrasts that effortlessly come together. In the old town, history meets the present. The Domplatz Square, sacred buildings and medieval walls tell stories of centuries past, while modern architecture - like the city library - adds fresh accents, as if it had always belonged. City life unfolds beneath the arcades: cafés, fine dining, small shops and events - right in the here and now.
Above the town lies the Plose, Brixen’s local mountain. The starting point is St. Andrä at 970 metres. From there, the cable car takes you up to 2,500 metres, into an alpine world of hiking trails and panoramic views worth capturing. And then there are Afers, Palmschoß and Kreuztal: places with crisp mountain air, short distances into nature and sweeping views that leave you wanting more. Down in the valley around Brixen, quieter corners await. Albeins to the south, with its apple orchards and charming lanes. Elvas, perched above the valley basin. And the Pfeffersberg to the west, with its hamlets nestled among chestnut groves. City and mountains, old and new, movement and calm - it’s this diversity that defines Brixen.
