This relaxed hike leads through the Altfasstal Valley and offers views of the Jochtal area, the Geisler peaks and the Pustertal Valley. The route is ideal if you want to enjoy peaceful surroundings and wide panoramas.
The hike starts at an altitude of 1,800 metres at the Schilling cable car mountain station, which you can reach from Vals. From there, follow wide forest roads gently downhill into the AltfasstalValley. At the beginning of the route, you can enjoy views towards Jochtal and Gänsebichl.
In the valley, Großberghütte is a suitable place for a break. However, check the opening hours during the low season.
You then have two options: continue hiking to Meransen and enjoy views of the Dolomites and the Pustertal Valley along the way, or return uphill to the Schilling mountain station and take the cable car back down to the valley.
