It is a precious habitat, home to both people and wildlife – a place where we can breathe deeply and reconnect with ourselves. And it is exactly this space we want to protect. How, you might ask?
Challenging hike from the village center, past the famous Defreggergasse and the unique cemetery, up to the Villanders Alp. The Villanders Alp is an extensive high alpine pasture between the Tinne and Zargen streams.
From the village, walk along the alpine road to the first hairpin bend. There, turn left toward the hamlet of Kranebitt. Then follow trail marker no. 7, passing old farmsteads, and continue uphill to Diller and Pfroder. After crossing the bridge over the Mühlbach stream, the route continues with a gentle incline via Parjöhl to the Speckboden car park, where you’ll find a wayside shrine. Trail marker no. 7 then continues to the Saltnerstein (Gasser Hut, 1,756 m). In winter, when there is snow, there are partial alternative options along the access road.
