It is a precious habitat, home to both people and wildlife – a place where we can breathe deeply and reconnect with ourselves. And it is exactly this space we want to protect. How, you might ask?
This wonderful tour from Saltnerstein (Gasser Hut) combines alpine pasture charm with cultural highlights: the Stöfflhütte and the Latzfonser Kreuz, Europe’s highest pilgrimage site. The grand finale is the summit of Kassianspitze, offering an impressive panorama in the Sarntal Alps.
From the parking area at the Gasser Hut, we follow trail marker no. 6. Above the Mair in Plun refreshment stop, we turn right onto hiking trail no. 15. After about 90 minutes, we reach the serviced Stöffl Hut. We continue following marker 15A, and then via marker no. 1 we arrive at the Latzfonser Kreuz (Europe’s highest pilgrimage site). From here, it takes about 50 minutes to reach Kassianspitze. Return to the Gasser Hut along the same route.
