The small town of Klausen, nestled in the Eisack Valley between the main road and the Brenner motorway, is often overlooked when passing through – unjustly so. The historic town centre impresses with numerous medieval buildings and architectural features. Those following this medieval town walk should allow enough time to discover the history and unique atmosphere of Klausen. Highlights include the Crypt Chapel, the parish church and the Old Town Hall. After the walk, the cafés and inns hidden behind the historic façades invite visitors to enjoy a relaxing stop.
The medieval town walk starts at Marktplatz, at the northern end of Klausen. Through the historic town gate, the route leads into the Upper Town. From there, follow the street southwards through the old town centre to the Lower Town and Tinne Square. Crossing the bridge over the Tinne stream, you reach the Capuchin Garden. The route then returns across the bridge, turns left towards Rossmarkt and continues through Gerbergasse to the Säben ascent. The walk then leads back down into the Lower Town, through Färbergasse and along the Eisack promenade to the starting point at Marktplatz.
