The hike starts at the Gitschberg mountain station at 2,041 metres, which you can easily reach by cable car from Meransen. From there, follow trail no. 21 across the Ochsenboden. Continue along the Schellenberg Trail no. 6, which crosses the western slope and is exposed in places.
At Seefeldalm, descend to Seefeldsee lake at 2,271 metres. From there, the route continues downhill to the huts at the head of the Altfasstal Valley: Wieserhütte and Pranter Stadl Hütte at 1,850 metres. Both are suitable places for a break.
The return route first leads through the Altfasstal Valley and then through the village back to the cable car valley station.
Tip: You can hire a bicycle at the huts at the head of the valley and enjoy an easy ride back to the Gitschberg valley station.
