The starting point of the hike is the Gitschberg mountain station at an elevation of 2,041 metres, which can be easily reached by cable car from Meransen. From there, follow Trail No. 21 across the Ochsenboden. Continue on Schellenberg Trail No. 6, which has some exposed sections as it traverses the western slope.
At the Seefeld Hut, descend to Lake Seefeld at 2,271 metres. From there, the trail continues downhill to the huts at the end of the Altfasstal Valley: the Wieser Hut and the Pranter Stadl Hut at 1,850 metres. Both are ideal places to take a break.
The return route first leads through the Altfasstal Valley and then through the village back to the Gitschberg cable car valley station.
Tip: At the huts at the end of the valley, you can rent a bicycle and enjoy a leisurely ride back to the Gitschberg cable car valley station.
