You start at the Zumis parking lot and initially follow the Confin trail towards the Roner Alm. From there, continue eastwards along trail no. 2 to the Pianer Kreuz.
The route then leads you to the Rastnerhütte mountain hut. Continue straight ahead to the Starkenfeldhütte mountain hut and then follow the trail towards Astalm. From there, follow trail marker no. 67, which leads you up to the summit cross of Astjoch.
For the return journey, follow the same route via Astalm, the Starkenfeldhütte and Rastnerhütte mountain huts and Roner Alm back to the Zumis parking lot, the finishing point of the hike.
