Start at the Dun parking lot in the upper Pfunders Valley and follow trail no. 20 towards Grindlberg Lake. The hike initially follows an uphill asphalt road before turning left onto a wide hiking trail through the Duner Gorge.
Soon afterwards, the valley opens up and the trail runs alongside the Weitenberg Stream, with views of the Pfunders mountains. Climb gradually through alpine pastures, passing the Lower and Upper Engbergalm. Beyond the huts, trail no. 20 becomes narrower and steeper and leads through flower-covered meadows to the Pfunders High Trail.
After around three hours, you reach the secluded Grindlberg Lake at 2,485 metres. Continue on trail no. 20, descending over slate slabs to the lake’s north-western shore and then climbing to the Seescharte at 2,591 metres, the highest point of the hike.
The descent leads to Weitenberger Lake. From there, continue through open alpine terrain without a defined path but following clear waymarks until you reach the Weitenbergalm at 1,958 metres. Fresh alpine products are available on the sun terrace.
For the return route, follow trail no. 19 towards Dun. It rejoins the original trail and leads you back to the parking lot.
