Look forward to a varied mountain tour featuring two impressive peaks. The route takes you through different landscapes, past peacefully situated mountain huts and up to panoramic viewpoints. Along the way, you can experience the South Tyrolean mountains throughout every stage of the tour.
You start at the Gitschberg mountain station, where you can immediately enjoy the fresh mountain air and views of the surrounding peaks. The trail first leads towards the Gitschhütte and then continues to the Ochsenboden, where the first views of the mountain landscape open up.
From the Falzarer Joch, the ascent to the Fallmetzer begins. The trail along the south-east ridge takes you directly to the summit, where you can enjoy a wide-ranging panorama. The route then leads back to the Falzarer Joch.
From there, you continue towards the Gitsch. The slightly more demanding ascent is rewarded with a 360° view of the South Tyrolean Alps. The descent follows the southern side of the Gitschberg, passing sunny slopes and varied landscapes.
Book your cable car ticket online in advance or purchase it directly from the ski pass office in Meransen.
Check the operating hours of the Gitschberg cable car and the opening times of the huts along the route beforehand.
From Mühlbach, follow the main road north and the signs for Meransen. After a few minutes, you reach the turn-off onto the SP149, the Meransen road, which winds uphill through the mountain landscape. After approximately 10–15 minutes, you arrive at the entrance to Meransen. In the village centre, follow the signs to the right for the Gitschberg gondola valley station, where a large car park is located.
