Look forward to a varied mountain tour featuring two impressive peaks. The route takes you through different landscapes, past peacefully situated mountain huts and up to panoramic viewpoints. Along the way, you can experience the South Tyrolean mountains throughout every stage of the tour.
You start at the Gitschberg mountain station, enjoying the fresh mountain air and views of the surrounding peaks right from the beginning. First, follow trail no. 20 towards the Gitschhütte mountain hut and continue to Ochsenboden, where the first beautiful views of the mountain landscape open up.
From Ochsenboden, trails no. 6 and 6B lead you to Falzarer Joch. From here, the ascent to Fallmetzer begins. The trail along the south-east ridge takes you directly to the summit, where you can enjoy sweeping panoramic views. Afterwards, you return to Falzarer Joch.
From there, continue towards Gitsch. Following trail no. 12, the slightly more challenging ascent takes you to the summit, where you are rewarded with an impressive 360° view of the South Tyrolean Alps. You then descend along the southern side of Gitschberg and follow trails no. 12 and 20 back to the Gitschberg mountain station, the finishing point of your tour.
Book your cable car ticket online in advance or purchase it directly from the ski pass office in Meransen.
Check the operating hours of the Gitschberg cable car and the opening times of the huts along the route beforehand.
From Mühlbach, follow the main road north and the signs for Meransen. After a few minutes, you reach the turn-off onto the SP149, the Meransen road, which winds uphill through the mountain landscape. After approximately 10–15 minutes, you arrive at the entrance to Meransen. In the village centre, follow the signs to the right for the Gitschberg gondola valley station, where a large car park is located.
