The Klausen railway station is an architectural gem from the Austro-Hungarian era and one of the town’s most distinctive historic buildings. The Italian railway company made the building available to the municipality, and the former ticket hall is open during the day.
The masonry is made of characteristic Val Gardena granite, while the door and window frames are crafted from porphyry. Particularly elegant is the gable area, featuring finely crafted wooden decorative elements.
Together with the beautifully restored inn and the historic avenue of plane trees dating back to the Austro-Hungarian railway era, the station forms a remarkably valuable historical and architectural ensemble.
The station has been unstaffed for several years. Thanks to the Kuratorium für technische Kulturgüter and the commitment of local railway enthusiasts, much of the historic technical equipment has been preserved, including the points, signal box and various control panels.
